From Wikipedia:

The Cross and the Switchblade is a book written in 1962 by pastor David Wilkerson with John and Elizabeth Sherrill. It tells the true story of Wilkerson’s first five years in New York City, where he ministered to disillusioned youth, encouraging them to turn away from the drugs and gang violence they were involved with. The book became a best seller, with more than 15 million copies distributed in over 30 languages.

The comic book adaptation came out in 1972. I’m not so sure even one of the good pastor’s thousand pieces would be able to say I love you, but it’s the thought that counts.

It’s a good thing you explained the last one. When i first read it, I thought he said “I could kill you Peach!” and the response was “every one of th thousand pieces would say I love you”. That would have been a very different comic book about a pair of streetwise gang lovers (well, one gang member and the normal white guy he fell in love with). However, interracial gay lovers in a 60’s comic book would have been way ahead of its time.

lol, Brokeback Alley. Good one. I too actually interpreted that as a gay comic book cover because of the “I love you” line.

Nicky: “I could kill you, Peaches!”

Peaches: “Yes, you could, Nicky! You could cut your Peaches up in a thousand pieces. And every piece of your Peach will say I love you!”
