The Hesperia Junior High D&D Club is playing The Keep on the Borderlands in the school library. Love that camo boonie hat. The photos are from the Hesperia Junior High Yearbook from 1982-1983 via Keith Sloane, who posted them in the comments at Joseph Bloch’s Greyhawk Grognard. I posted Bloch’s D&D Club photo here.
Where, oh where are they all now?
I’ve reunited with a buddy of mine, btw…he’s a big D&D and board game geek. Right off the top we’re going to get together with our kids and play “King of Tokyo” (I’d never even heard of that game before he told me about it). Who knows, he just may get us into D&D pretty soon. lol
The kid with glasses and the big white collar (top picture, middle) looks uncannily like Haverchuck (Martin Starr) from Freaks & Geeks!
That’s the Holmes Basic D&D version of Keep on the Borderlands, since it has the TSR Wizard Logo on the cover.
Wow. Good eye.
I love that they’re playing at the school library. Imagine that just a few years later, there would be a big (and quite misguided) push to ban D&D for being satanic…silly people….
True enough. Actually, “adults” were banning D&D in schools and school libraries very early on:

Thanks for the article…also, “adults” are dumb.
I refuse to grow up…as much as my kids will let me.
If only we’d known that we nerds were out in force then….
