Gen Con XI Ringer T-Shirt (1978)

Gen Con T-1

Gen Con T-2

TSR and the Parkside Association of Wargamers (PAW) co-hosted Gen Con XI at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. See an ad for the convention at Zenopus Archives. Can someone tell me what the symbol in the top grid stands for?

The shirt sold for $41 on eBay.

I gamed with my usual group last weekend (DCC and various fantasy boardgames), and one of the guys in the group brought something called Cave Evil. Have you ever seen this thing? It’s like Erol Otus meets Black Metal! cave-evil.com

The secret to Call of Cthulhu, strange as it sounds, is to not focus on recreating Lovecraft (Derleth, whatever). Most folks who want to play, have read it and can guess what’s coming. You simply have to put your own spin on it. In high school, I used to make alot of use of the microfiche in various local libraries. Visiting graveyards for NPC inspiration (they’re everywhere here in New England, often tiny, hidden between abandoned houses, vacant lots, et cetera). I would bring a cassette recorder with me, to make use of found sounds and also to listen to a tape that had The Cure’s Seventeen Seconds on one side and Faith on the other (thanks Jessica).

Did you ever unintentionally open the gate to hell, say to yourself, “Well, shit…”, and then scramble to find the correct passage in the [insert name of ancient occult tome here] that would reseal said gate before demons took over the world for all eternity?

It’s far in the future from whence this post was made.
but maybe you still get notified of replies.

the symbol in the top grid is the logo of the University of Wisconsin – Parkside, still used to this day, from where the convention was held and the university that PAW is a club in.
